La Ruta Es Clara investigates how we can progress from our individual world views and lives to bridge with others and create a more unified world based on mutual understanding and connection. From rural Portugal to Mexico City to California’s Sierra Nevada and the Lake Tahoe Basin, these poems pursue clarity in the ecopoetic tradition with a focus on landscapes in the time of climate change. The manuscript makes direct connections between our relationship with our natural environment and our role in global humanitarian events through a lens of empathy for each distinct group. La Ruta es Clara expresses continual wonder at the world’s magnificence while acknowledging the intersection of our natural environments and human complications. With an eye towards our political and cultural conflicts and tensions, the poems embrace the complexity inherent in any issue without vilification of either side or over simplification.

Endorsements

“La Ruta Es Clara is a journey of lyric density and intensity, a hunger for knowing, and the wisdom of wonder. This uplifting book contemplates ‘who we are in love’ and ‘What if we keep arriving and arriving where we dreamed we could go.’ This is a marvelous book of unifying spirit, a true pleasure to read.”
—Lee Herrick, Poet Laureate of California; author of In Praise of Late Wonder: New and Selected Poems, Scar and Flower, Gardening Secrets of the Dead, and This Many Miles from Desire

“Reading Gabrielle Myers’ La Ruta Es Clara is such a beautifully grounding experience. I found myself meditating on the questions: where am I rooted and to whom am I connected? Gabrielle's poetry is carefully tended, framing the pastoral as a vessel that holds our interstitial connections to each other through labor, food, and land—shepherding us back to this covenant as a needed medicine to the constant barrage of exploitation, imperialism, and war. This book draws you back into the tactile and sensuous nature of the living world and into ‘a safe place of human making.’”
—Jason Bayani, author of Everyone I Love, Alive; Locus; and Amulet

“At the center of Gabrielle Myers’s poetic efforts we find a sharp consciousness and an attentive conscience, both of which are awake and up to the task of witnessing this brutal and luminous world.”
—Joseph Fasano, author of  The Last Song of the World, The Crossing, The Swallows of Lunetto, The Dark Heart of Every Wild Thing, Vincent, Inheritance, and Fugue for Other Hands
