“Joseph Murphy’s new collection, Another Language, covers a lifetime of passionate pursuits, rising from both the heart and the soul. His imagery, sometimes surreal and other times more concrete, lends his poems a dreamlike quality, slipping in and out of reality but never out of the truth. The volume is divided into four sections, with the first three reflecting a mature spiritual journey with the Buddha and later his pursuit to regain a lost lover. The final section includes poems from a much earlier time, recounting a rocky romantic experience from his twenties. All these poems, being autobiographically inspired, reveal a writer who has looked back on the most painful and ecstatic turns in his life and examined them honestly under the lens of what the poet George Seferis termed ‘Another Language.’”
—Anita Jepson-Gilbert, President, Columbine Poets of Colorado
