Sweet Wisdoms by Angeline Haen
Not all wisdom is siphoned from bitter life experiences; wisdom has a sweet side. For Angeline Haen, wisdom is revealed through a natural curiosity about the mystical messages in our everyday circumstances: a van full of preschoolers, daily walks with Wally, ponderings over split-pea soup, and every pause of wonder in between. This charming and sublime book is an easy, big-hearted read, and it will inspire its readers to recognize and acknowledge the simple sweet wisdoms in their own life experiences. Angeline Haen was raised on a small dairy farm in Sobieski, Wisconsin, where the love of the earth and all things of nature collected in her heart. Through her participation in the Native American community in her later years, she learned how to nurture a relationship with all that surrounds her. A former electrical / instrumentation journeywoman and stay-at-home mom, she is currently employed as a schoolbus driver. She and her husband, Andy, steward a forty-five acre hobby farm and tend to the needs of four beehives. An avid gardener, Angeline earned her Master Food Preserver certification in 2012. Presently, she is rehabilitating a rescue horse the family adopted in May of 2014. In the past, she has volunteered for the Sexual Assault Center of Family Services in Green Bay, Wisconsin, where she supported victims of sexual assault and abuse. She is actively involved in the lives of her two children, Sophie, who is seventeen, and Peter, who is fourteen. |

"Haen is a jack-of-all-trades — a school bus driver, hobby farmer, beekeeper, mother, wife and rescue horse rehabilitator. She grew up on a dairy farm in Sobieski in northeastern Wisconsin, and this debut title offers observations of the life around her. Although most recollections are less than a page, readers will bask in the ordinary everyday scenarios with their poetic rhythm and plentiful descriptions. As a school bus driver, she has many whimsical tales to tell, including the time a child called her a 'butt driver' and kindergartners serenading her with Christmas carols on their way to a concert. She delights in the first snowfall of the year, rain for her garden and the buzz of bees. Haen proves that the simple pleasures in life can bring reflection and happiness." |
