Sheri Vandermolen brings India into vibrant focus with her evocative imagery, rich narration, and sharp wit, inviting the reader to join her in an engaging exploration of the Indian subcontinent. The volume’s forty-five poems and accompanying photographs span experiences as commonplace as trips to the local city market and as distinct as a visit to Allahabad for the 2013 Maha Kumbh Mela, considered the world’s largest single-event gathering of humanity, with thirty million people in attendance on the most auspicious bathing day. Dynamic and nimble, Jasmine Fractals pivots through the jostling contrasts of urban India.

Author Biography

Sheri Vandermolen began writing poetry in September 2013 and has since had her verse and photos published in over thirty international literary journals. In 2016, she was a featured poet in Contemporary American Voices and a featured photographer / writer in Cargo Literary. Her images have appeared on five book covers and the cover of the literary magazine Eastlit, and her work is comprised in the anthology Veils, Halos and Shackles: International Poetry on the Oppression and Empowerment of Women, edited by Dr. Charles Adès Fishman and Smita Sahay (Kasva Press, 2016).

Vandermolen graduated summa cum laude in 1990, from the University of Missouri – Columbia, and went on to serve at Time Being Books (St. Louis, Missouri) for over two decades, including nine years as the company’s archivist and managing editor and seventeen as editor in chief. After relocating to Bangalore, India, in 2008, she began exploring the subcontinent extensively via her camera and pen, generating this volume’s forty-five poems from experiences as commonplace as her trips to the local city market and as distinct as her visit to the 2013 Maha Kumbh Mela, in Allahabad, considered the world’s largest single-event gathering of humanity, with thirty million people in attendance on the most auspicious bathing day.

Vandermolen repatriated in 2014, and she and her husband now reside in California, where she pursues freelance writing, editing, and photography.
