Author Biography

Ekaterina Bykhovskaya was born in Moscow, Russia, and moved to her current home of Strasbourg, France, at the age of twenty-five. She used to take lots of snapshots with her point-and-shoot camera in auto mode until one day she decided to learn to photograph “properly.”

Ekaterina took her first photography course at the London School of Photography. This course opened her eyes to a new world. She came to realize that the medium of photography goes far beyond the mere recording of the outside world and could be an exciting tool for expression of views, moods and emotions. Since then Ekaterina has taken numerous photography courses and workshops in Europe and the United States both to improve her skills and to experiment with different subjects and styles. Travelling remains for her a powerful source of ideas and impressions. In her images Ekaterina seeks to convey her personal perception and feelings inspired by a place, situation or a moment.

Whereas Ekaterina mainly works with digital photography, she is interested in antique photographic processes which have a unique quality about them. In some of her works she recreates the effect of such processes so as to endow the images with a lyrical and timeless feel.

Ekaterina exhibits her work around Europe and the United States. Her photographs have been featured in a number of publications and received numerous awards and prizes.
