While walking the Arizona Trail from Mexico to Utah, Heidi Elizabeth Blankenship took photographs of scenic vistas and scribbled words on scraps of paper. Her photographs evolved into imaginative paper cuttings and her words into impassioned poems. Together these images and poems express heartfelt gratitude and love for everything that surrounds us. Perfect for the hiker, camper, adventurer, and nature enthusiast; ideal for anyone who relishes in a vision of the world as gift and celebration.

Author Biography

Heidi Elizabeth Blankenship grew up with wilderness on the horizon in Wellsville, Utah. She has been hiking ever since she could walk and writing ever since she could hold a pen. She received a B.S. in English from Utah State University with an area studies certificate in Literature, Culture, and the Environment. Her poetry has appeared in literary journals and anthologies, and is often read directly to the land. She has had the good fortune of serving as a ranger for state and federal agencies on the Colorado Plateau and in the Sonoran Desert. She claims both Utah and Arizona as home.

Articles and Reviews

"These poems are gems: simple, yet very powerful. The animate souls of the desert’s countless creatures and features speak here in sparse, crystalline verse. The poems are evocative of both the land and human relationship. The narrative thread that links them, sometimes whimsical, sometimes humorous provides the personal touch. Few words, short lines, short strokes, yet as packed as can be with all the magic of a deeply felt experience of the natural world.  Heidi Elizabeth Blankenship is the Emily Dickinson of the Desert."
— Gary Cox, archeological technician, Maze District - Canyonlands National Park
